I fixed with EDF back in May and gave them a meter reading straight away to be on the safe side so I wouldn't get overcharged for gas and electricity used before I fixed as didn't want to be overcharged - we pay enough!

Anyway just had a nosey on the app and my fixed rate is showing as only kicking in from 1 October.  My contract said it started from the date I signed over.  Thought it interesting pending the government update tomorrow.

Anyone else fix and noticed the same??

  • What did your email confirmation say ?

Were you already on a fix ?

When I opted for the May 2024 fixed tariff there were two options, change immediately or at the expiry of my then current fix.

Maybe you ticked the wrong box.

    Make that:

Maybe you ticked the wrong right box.

Tariffs in May were more expensive than SVT, so if they are still charging you SVT you won.

Question, did you get a bill since May? Otherwise they might bill you the fixed tariff on the bill.

check the web account too - I found that it & the app didn't always agree.

  • I was on a variable back then and had been for a while. I didn't have a choice of when to change - I went straight onto the fixed rate.  I've just checked my confirmation letter and it says that my contract started on 7 June and ends in May 2024.  I got muddled with the start date.  I purposely took and sent a reading so they couldn't charge me the higher rate from my last reading which was on 31.3.22 but looks like the new rate is only kicking in from October.

I have taken monthly readings since just to keep an eye on my usage and have looked at the rate I'm on when comparing with newer fixed rates but haven't seen this before.

I am wondering if something to do with the government announcement tomorrow and EDF have perhaps extended their variable as seems odd it now says it is starting on 1 October. I'm sure it will all become clear tomorrow... just made me wonder if anyone else who had fixed had seen similar on their app.
