In house display

Hi, inherited an in house display (IHD) device when I moved house last year. It has never displayed any gas data just electricity. I was moved to Shell last October when my old provider went bust and I have queried this problem with Shell twice and they keep saying it is a software problem that won’t be fixed by a replacement IHD. With all of us keeping a close eye on our energy use I feel at a disadvantage to know what appliance to use when as I can’t see any gas data. My smart meters are SMET2 so surely this a fault that should be corrected?
Has anyone got similar experience or advice? Was it resolved?

Thanks

Although it doesn't resolve the issue with the IHD, depending where the software issue is you may be able to work round it by using the Loop app on your smartphone. This gets the smart meter data from the central computer it is stored on, rather than the meter, so as long as your gas meter is actually transmitting data you'll be able to see it that way. Unfortunately this won't give you a live display, but you can then see what you've been using in half hour intervals. Of course, if the problem is the smart meter isn't sending the data to the central computer the Loop app won't help. I'm not suggesting this is really an acceptable or good solution, but it might at least provide you with a reasonably convenient way to see what you're using while the real problem gets sorted.

To most energy providers, the IHDs are simply a gimmick/gadget/throw away item. They are not really interested in whether they work or not as long as the Smart meter itself works, and even then, if it stops reporting live data, they'll just go back to estimated reads if you aren't submitting any online any more.
Your best bet is to use an alternative solution, such as Hildebrand's Bright app, but this won't give you instant data and typically updated at most on 30 minute intervals. You are best doing usage calculations over longer periods though tbh so it's fine.

The fault should be rectified; however, it is not within any suppliers' gift to make it happen. The DCC runs the network and it is solely responsible for all communications hubs.

Smart Meter and device manufacturers (eg; IHDs and CADs) design and build their meters/devices, and submit them to the DCC for testing. Once certified, suppliers can install these meters/devices in our homes. Meter and device manufacturers are also responsible for all meter firmware updates. When things go awry, there is not much that a supplier can do other than complain to the DCC or meter/device manufacturers.

There is a known problem with some WNC1 communications hubs which has been ongoing for some months. For gas, the communications hub is crucial as it contains a gas proxy meter that does such things as covert gas volume to kWh (for display on the IHD but not for billing). The communications hub also establishes the Home Area Network: the IHD connects to this network.

Finally, to rule out an installation issue, I assume that you checked the communications hub for a flashing gas paired LED?
