Combi boiler

My in-laws have had 2 quotes for replacing an old boiler (tanked system) with a combi. The quotes include moving it slightly, from the back of the garage closer to the front, to enable a utility to be created at the back.
1st quote: £4000
2nd quote: £5178
They were expecting closer to £3k. Is it likely they could get it done any cheaper? Is the cost significantly higher because they're moving it slightly? Would really appreciate some advice. Location is north of England (Teesside).

Broadly speaking I had a similar job done, and it was around
£3,500 - Sole Trader
£3,900 - Online firm like heatable (they are good to test out different install options online)
£4,200 - Local small firm
£5,400 - Large regional firm
This was for a fairly top end combi boiler, that is approx £1,800
And yes, the moving is a big factor, especially if it involves much more piping etc..2 -
Had our old system boiler swapped to a Combi and also moved from the dining room to adjacent garage. Quote we went with in the end was £4500 (for a Vaillant ecoTec boiler so one of the more expensive ones). Most expensive quote was £5500 and cheapest was just over £2000 (which made me dubious). This is in SE London.2

Moving the boiler position is definitely adding to the cost and limiting their choice of contractor, but I think they should be able to get the work done to a high standard for about £3,500.The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.2

Thanks very much for replying, that's really helpful for comparison. I'll suggest they get more quotes and hopefully they can get it closer to £3500...0

I’m also in Teesside, I had a new combi fitted last year. It cost me £2200. That was for a Viessmann boiler fitted in the same place but new flue etc.
I work for a company now who fit boilers daily in different locations etc. I’m guessing if moving it to the other side of the house it may get a lot more expensive.1 -
