Trying to find the answer to this but nobody seems to know just surmising…I am currently supplied on a fixed deal with Scottish Power(SP) this ends at the end of Dec…I have sold my house and am buying another ,downsizing,(my wife has spina bifida and I have a mechanical heart valve fitted just telling everyone not a hard luck story!)I called SP they told me I couldn’t (obviously!) take my deal with me and couldn’t keep them as supplier, they looked up who was supplying me in my new home and it is Bulb. They are in Special Administration so SP were wrong I can change supplier if I can find one lol…anyway my worry is concerning the payments being given to help
…if I don’t move until say the end of Dec I will get for eg. 3 monthly payments from SP but then when I move house will I get the other 3 back from Bulb or whoever I end up with?Is it automatically picked up or will SP just refund the remaining amounts?I can just see this going pear shaped and a long battle to get the remaining payments as I’ve said everyone I have spoken to thus far is unsure and just says “good question”. I cannot find any T&Cs or guidelines regarding this and explaining it to somebody who doesn’t have a grasp of English is very frustrating….any help greatly appreciated

From what I gather, every non-business account, wherever they be will have the (£66/67) rebate on their monthly bill for the months Oct-Mar.

When moving into a new property, initially you are a customer of whichever energy supplier is in charge of it's energy supply.  You can then of course move to  anew supplier should you wish.

I would therefore assume you will get the monthly rebate on Bulb's plan on a monthly until March

What could be tricky is when does your current supplier take payment of your bill as opposed to what day of the month does Bulb take payment of customer bills, but I'm probably overthinking it.

Possibly a call into Bulb will confirm this

SP said that you couldn’t take your fixed deal, and that they wouldn’t be your supplier at the new house.  Both of these points are correct.  And as they aren't presently taking on new customers, they won't be your supplier in the short term future after the move.  What is it you think they got wrong?

You won’t find any T&Cs about the bills rebate because it isn’t a contract.

And to answer the direct question, you will get each monthly payment from whoever is your supplier that month.

If you take on the new property on the 1st of the month it's probably quite simple but as this is unlikely I can understand your problem.

Neither supplier will know mid-month if the other supplier has/will be giving the discount for that month. Or will they both give a proportion of the discount for the number of days in the month you have an account with them? It would be nice to know because thousands of people will be changing address over the 6 month period.

  • I moved house in May 22 from a fixed price deal with EDF to a new build supplied by British Gas, no choice lost fixed deal and onto variable rate. The added complication with a new build was lack of up to date information on databases, builder gave copy of his last bill with supply address and managed to sort it out on BG Chat.
So far using far less gas and electric as we have also downsized not received a quarterly bill for electric yet but first gas bill was much less than expected seems every company is difficult to deal with at the moment, good luck with the move.
  • Thanks for the replies…to Sparkygrad…SP weren’t correct in what they said to me,maybe I didn’t explain it properly apologies…they told me I couldn’t take my deal with me yes that was correct and I knew that anyway…but the way the salesman put it was that they wouldn’t by law be able to supply me ever again! And that I would have to stay with Bulb for 3 months which is also incorrect and saying things are “by law” is a risky thing!…firstly anyone can move supplier when they change abode but it’s dependent on the company involved…certainly within a few days and secondly I called SP back because of this misinformation and add the fact that Bulb are in  Special Administration (which means I can movesupplier immediately)…SP denied saying anything of the sort and actually told me to call them when I had moved and if I wanted they would supply me…quite an about turn! Obviously depending on any deals being available which is doubtful …If it wasn’t so serious it is quite funny dealing with power companies who 3 years ago would sell their souls to get you on board  but now are hiding under the table from you😂😂😂…anyway thanks everyone again for the help of course a lot may change with the new PM…but she has to do something the Indian Restaurant owner last night summed it up…my energy bills will be that high that I will have to charge £65 for a chicken tikka masala…what a mess🙈
  • You can try and move suppliers immediately after setting up your account with the deemed supplier for the property.  That applies whether the supplier is Bulb or anyone else, nothing to do with special administration.  Most suppliers aren't accepting new customers at the moment though.

The qualifying date for each month's payment is the 1st of that month, so whoever your account is with on the 1st of the month for each of the 6 months will be responsible for giving you that month's payment.
