you can get a free gmail (Google Mail) account and then just change the settings on outlook express to the gmail one (if you send me a private message with your hotmail account I'll send you an invite ...gmail is invite only)

Telelwest can reset it for you, If I remember rightly the default password is on your first letter from them

stuff about email and passwors here

Just to clarify things, you should not need a password to get into OE. The password is needed to log-in to your Internet Service Provider (ISP). Even if you have not used OE, I presume you have been accessing the internet. If so, you must have an ISP. If you log-on to the internet using Internet Explorer you should then be able to open OE.

Have you previously set-up e-mail accounts? (Do you have e-mail addresses other than the hotmail address?) If so, which ISP are you with?

If you have a log-in screen for IE or OE which shows the password as a series of *, it is possible to see what the password is. I can give further details if required.

That looks like it will only work if the password is already filled in but you can't remember what it is, as you have to hover over the asterisks of the password. The OP seems to be saying there is a prompt for a password, so it could be one of the following

    1) Dialup connection trying to connect to Internet
    2) Trying to change identities
    3) Remember password was not ticked when email was setup and therefore OE is prompting for the password so it can check for new messages.

1 & 2 is unlikely so probably 3. In this case if it is a blueyonder account (as you think it is) check if you have a letter from BY with the password on (as browntoa suggests) or ring them up. If it isn't blueyonder ring who ever provides it.

Sure it is Outlook Express and not Microsoft Outlook, as MS Outlook can have passwords before you can get into it.

What password is it you can't remember? hotmail password for email?
If so go to www.hotmail.com and click the 'forgot my password' link.

If you can't 'have a normal job' then i'm presuming you're at home and can access the internet without a problem. So it doesn't look like it's your ISP password you've forgotten.

With Hotmail now you have to pay to use it via Outlook Express so maybe that's why it's not working. Also, if it's just having problems when going through OE can't you view the mail from hotmail.com?

Yes you can (see point 2 in my first post) but it doesn't ask you as soon as you open the program, only when you switch identities, password protection in OE is useless anyway, can't see the point of it...

anyway until the OP posts back it's just guess work to what the problem is as there isn't enough information in the post to offer the correct solution
