So basically I looking at my phone during lunch time in a corridor, I was looking at my emails. I was looking at my fake email account and someone came past, they looked at my phone and then my Id and saw the name on the Id didn’t match the name on an email that I had open
They must have had to walk passed very slowly or you have a very large phone to see all of that.

As for the email address, well i have several 'fake' email addresses. For example I use one for a local football team on a forum, as i have been involved with them I don't want them knowing it is me if i comment generally.

Another email address I use for competitions, but it is in my sisters name (she knows).

I'm sure there are plenty on here using fake email addresses ie user name john123 but uses the email address susan21@.... to hide their identity when commenting about a sensitive reason. Is your fake email address for similar reasons or something else?

If it was your lunch time you aren't doing anything wrong unless phones are barred during the entire working day. If someone has seen that Thomas Parker is using an email address of Helen Smith sure they might query it, but it isn't a sacking offence.

Are we talking about a work email address not in your name?  Anything else I wouldn't worry about it unless you are using that fake email address work/personal to cause others offence.

A general fake email address is not a sacking offence if it is being used legally.

You are being very vague. I wouldn't even know what email address a person is using if they are looking via their phone..

What do you mean by a fake email address?

And work phone or personal phone as that would make a difference?
  • You are way overthinking this. Even if you explicitly told someone you were using multiple email accounts, one of which was using a false name - for whatever reason - it's none of their business, it's none of your employers business and no one would ever care, unless you were specifically doing something nefarious, illegal, or it had something to do with ripping off the company you work for. It's your phone, it's your email account, and it was on your own time (lunch) so relax, no one cares and you've done nothing wrong from what you've told us.

Just using a personal phone during office hours can be a sackable offence.  How long have you been with the company?  The main e-mail address I use doesn't have my name but it isn't a fake address.

That's about the only thing that has been clarified. In the absence of Mystic Meg, we have no idea what he is talking about.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
