Any elaboration on what "poor" means with regard to the picture? That would help enormously in terms of understanding the issue. A photo as mentioned above would be useful if you can't describe it.
By the way, the "display" connector you called "old" is a Display Port, which is newer than HDMI.
The "HDR" not supported is "High Dynamic Range" and is about the brightness/colour depth, ie difference between the darkest and lightest. Switch that off in the settings as your monitor won't support it. Possible that is a problem so eliminate that first.1 -
