Reconnection cost for gas
Hi MSE team,
Gas is a luxury and convenience for me, I could live without it as i have a log burner that will heat my home and do my hot water.
My question is if i canceled my gas and took my meter out to save the monthly charge . Does anyone know What would be the cost of reinstalling it at a later date when hope fully this energy crisis is over and the costs come back down.
Looking forward to your reply

Far more than you would save on the standing charge.0

Some will say about £500. That’s about five years of standing charge.0

If you are lucky enough to be able to do away with gas now, why would your ever go back to it?fm950384 said:Hi MSE team,Gas is a luxury and convenience for me, I could live without it as i have a log burner that will heat my home and do my hot water. My question is if i canceled my gas and took my meter out to save the monthly charge . Most suppliers will charge you £100+ to remove the meter.fm950384 said:My question is if i canceled my gas and took my meter out to save the monthly charge . If you currently have an old metal pipe to the house there is a fair chance that it will be considered unsuitable for a "new" connection and you will have to pay for the pipe to the road to be replaced. If your house is on a main road and traffic management is required that will be added to the bill.

It will also substantially devalue the property. Terrible idea.No free lunch, and no free laptop

I am currently waiting for my gas connection to be removed as I am renovating the house to a passive house standard and a gas supply won’t be necessary. You can contact your energy supply first and let them know you no longer need gas and they will remove the meter. Some suppliers will not charge for this. Then within 12 months the transporter will make contact to arrange a safe disconnection (free) possibly outside the property boundary leaving you do take care of any pipe work in your property. However the reconnection charges are between £1-2k.1

Excellent you were going to list everything you were doing for £25K to convert you house to passivhaus standard. This has just reminded me as if it's that cheap we may look to do similar. Already electric only.jj_43 said:I am currently waiting for my gas connection to be removed as I am renovating the house to a passive house standard and a gas supply won’t be necessary. You can contact your energy supply first and let them know you no longer need gas and they will remove the meter. If gas is so bad for the climate, and now rather expensive, surely the govn should be giving grants to people who agree to have their gas supply permanently removed - and it will devalue the house but not if you have a decent solar pv system and heat pump.0

Well they are giving grants to install heat pumps.wrf12345 said:If gas is so bad for the climate, and now rather expensive, surely the govn should be giving grants to people who agree to have their gas supply permanently removed - and it will devalue the house but not if you have a decent solar pv system and heat pump.1
