once the plasterer has plastered, will it dry brown and need painting after? or is there anything they can use that dries white?

It will need painting or emulsioning.
Probably two coats.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
Although that would be a mighty fine idea, i think that its always brown. You can get coloured render externally but i have never heard of coloured plaster.
I maybe wrong, however i would probably get those brushes preped!
Life's way too short!

Now that WOULD be a profitable invention!
Think you'll need more than 2 coats!
But don't worry, Focus have 10litre with 20% extra free vinyl silk or matt for around £13. Directions on how to dilute first coat with water on the tub!

thanks all, so should i go for matt paint?
also do i need to put anything on the new plaster before painting, or can it go right on once dry, which i assume is when it looks dry lol0 -
you'll see it when it's drying, going from dark to a light teracotta colour.
obvs wait till it's TOTALLY dry, thin your first coat down quite a bit and use a full coat for your second ,if you do it right then you won't need anymore coats, however if your a complete novice then i would say give it another coat just to make sure you didn't miss anywhere.
i'm a p&d and 2 coats is always enough, just don't buy cheap crap, or that's what it'll end up.0 -

we had our walls and ceilings all done recently and was advised by loads of people some on here and even the plasterer to do a 50/50 mix for the first coat of paint on the new plaster thats 50%paint 50% water to seal the plaster then put a coat of paint on it.. we have had to paint it 3 times to make it look good..Those we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,
Are thinking of you today.0 -

Dont use silk on new plaster, you will have trouble, when plaster dries to a pale pink then you know its ready.
Apply a miscoat of matt, (watered down) by approx 30-35% as a sealcoat,(miscoat), then when dry apply a normal coat, but again thin down by about 10-15%, then do your second coat, but again I would still slightly water it down.
Do not use paint straight from the can, just water down each coat, you will get a far better finish, and will go on a lot more smoother.0
