British Gas Exit fee

I was made redundant 3 months ago and have also just been given final notice on my flat unexpectedly. I notice that to cancel my fixed tariff account with British Gas there is an exit fee of £100. I was wondering if there was any way of not having to pay this is you are being made to end a tenancy? Would being currently unemployed make a difference? Thanks for any advice.

Being given notice on your flat doesn't mean you have leave when they want, you could probably stall for several months.0
