Shrinkflation - Toilet roll length getting shorter

I found a small pack of toilet rolls hidden away in the back of a wardrobe. Don't know how long it had been there  but I'm guessing 8 years. I had previously thought toilet rolls were getting shorter,  so out of interest I compared it with a newer pack. The old one has an average of 241 sheets per roll, the new one has 200 sheets per roll.

What else are people finding we are pay the same or more for and getting less.

I'm pretty sure that there's a MSE started long running thread about the 'great shrinking food hunt'.
Maybe this could be merged with that.

    Hi,
did it have a use by or best before date, some folks are wary of using out of date stuff.

Wary of out of date loo roll??? Honest question, why would anyone be worried about out of date loo roll?? Why would there *be* a use by date on loo roll?? my mind is fairly boggling. Are they eating it?

  • Hi,
if paper has deteriorated due to storage, a finger could slip and cause internal damage.
  • One sheet a poo!!!

take the sheet , fold in half, half again, and half again - so you have a triangle

Nip the tip off and save

Open the folded sheet and there should be a hole in the centre

Insert middle finger , wipe bum, then hold onto to sheet and wipe up the finger to clean - dispose

use the wee nip of paper to clean finger nail

    Wash hands thoroughly :)
  • Back in the 1970s, our rolls here had 340+ tissues per roll. Now their "triple rolls" that are supposed to be the same as three normal rolls, have less than that. I was working on a textbook at the time and we were comparing rolls, which is why I know the count.

First available to the public in 1922 you could buy IZAL toilet paper. Although the description tracing paper would have been more apt! No danger of your finger slipping through this! Just the whole lot sliding around the scene!

People may have slid across this paper in Hospitals, Schools and Government buildings during that time.

If you have never had the pleasure of IZAL then think yourself very lucky! :D

I remember Izal toilet paper. My Nan used to have it in her outside loo and we had it in school with “ Birmingham City Council” printed on it.

It never used to flush at all!
