Driving at night - blind spots

  • Seriously, if you aren't going to check blind spots, stop driving.  As stated, you should also not be overtaking anyone just before making a turn in the road, and not when you are passing junctions.

    Morning Sim.

I see you're still struggling with another aspect of driving.

It's not really your thing is it.

Junctions, roundabouts, navigation and now blind spots and night driving.

Maybe get some P plates, to warn other road users that you are still a "novice" even after having your licence for some time now.   How long have you?
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

I can drive for example find it easy to drive to work and back to my town and separate shopping area.

I do struggle with some things, a little bit like lot of times I can find it very easy to drive at night.

Licnse 7 years, driving on/off 4 years continuous driving 3 years

    Venomx - not a troll

Had lessons on first lesson driving instructor said you wasting your money you just need to practice more, when it’s quiet, this was for huge rouandabouts, and big roads lots of turns junctions etc

  • Trouble is your difficulty with blind spots and overtaking a cyclist just before a junction really are novice matters that put the most vulnerable road users at most risk.

They are however I have not had a accident, that’s my fault in 5 years plus so must be doing something right.

    I don’t drive fast.

I only over take cyclists when it’s safe and lots of space and I’m gona start checking blind spots now.

    I don’t drive fast.
Define "fast"?  You should be driving at a speed appropriate to the road, traffic and weather conditions.  Pootling along at 30mph on an NSL single carriageway road, when conditions dictate that 60mph is perfectly safe, can be just as bad as exceeding the speed limit.

It's not just about at fault accidents - you can help avoid any form of accident by being more observant.  Not having an accident that's your fault in 5 years is not a demonstration of skill - it could be a demonstration of luck especially if in that time you haven't been checking your blind spots.  If you are aware of what is around you, you can avoid others making mistakes that impact you.
