Bit of a strange one. Have they recently changed their policy?
I've returned a few items recently (I've been a Prime member throughout if that's a factor and still am) with no charge on any of the return options.
Today I put in to return an item that is faulty and for the first time in a long time it isn't all free - some of the return options are charged, although the ones that are don't make sense.

Now clearly I'll be using the Evri drop off - no printer required. I always box my own stuff as I don't trust anyone else to do it.
But print at home being charged? So they'd charge me for using my own electricity/printer/paper/ink but if I use theirs then it's free? Just seems so backwards.
Never had that before. It's either all been charged or all been free.

I had an odd one recently but that was returning to Amazon Slovakia for which I had to pay and then they were reimbursing me.
Is it possible you didn't say the item was faulty? A change of mind, or similar, sometimes results in a charge.Just as a matter of their legal requirements, if it was delivered to your address and is faulty then Amazon should collect from your address and not have any charge. As I can't see what the other two return options are I don't know if they have/haven't done that.
You can always get on to Live Chat and they should generate a free version for you if you point out what I mention above.Another option is to hit the back button from there and select a different return reason and see what happens to the charges when you proceed..0 -
Yeah I selected that it was faulty & didn't press anything else by accident.
The other week I returned an item because I'd changed my mind - that return was free on all levels too.0 -

Did you see where it was going for the return?
As I said one I did was to a non UK Amazon but there was no indication that's where I purchased it from. So if yours was outside the UK that may show a difference.

Just to update on my situation. I purchased from Amazon in the UK and had to return a not as described item back to Amazon in Slovakia. It was only light and Amazon had said they would reimburse postage upon receipt.
I followed the tracking and the item has been refused delivery from Amazon and is on its way back to me.
I went on to Live Chat and after a discussion I received a refund, postage refund and was told to keep/dispose of the item when I get it back.
It's not always the easiest to get into Live Chat but it is usually an effective customer service.

I've found that when I've returned to foreign countries, the actual labelling is different & I tend to need to use UPS.0

They wanted me to get my own and were going to reimburse me. I have Royal Mail and UPS accounts, as I run a business, so it wasn't a big deal for me. I can see how it would have been intimidating to most.
As an addendum to my story they've also sent me a £15 gift voucher too. I'm now up £15 and a £70 product (that's fairly useless but I'll think of something!).
