They could be referring to a technique taught by some community psychiatric nurses, when a simple elastic band is worn on a wrist and flicked when a stressful situation occurs, the idea being that it reminds the wearer of the counselling advise which has gone before. It does nothing without the counselling.

A good way is to get a hypnotherapy tape, listen to it when nice and relaxed once a day, wear an elastic band and twang it to remember the positive affirmations when needed.

I used to get so travel sick as a child, the chemist recommended a band to wear round the wrist but I’ve long forgotten the name of it.  It worked for anxiety too - something to do with pressure points iirc.

It wasn’t like an elastic band, it was wider like the charity/affiliation bands you see everywhere now. It had bumps on the inside that you aligned with certain points on the underside of your wrist.

    It didn’t work for me.

Edit : Google says it was called Sea-Band.
