Forgive me butting in, but what is a "false ceiling"? Is this not just a ceiling?

A false ceiling is just a ceiling, but it's usually a suspended ceiling that has little load bearing capacity (as opposed to a ceiling attached to beams across a room).

We have a bay and we fixed blinds above the windows which are pretty lightweight, and then we have heavy curtains that can close across the whole bay. They aren't closed that often but make a massive difference in the winter. Similar to previous pictures. That set up was a doddle to fit, as opposed to a curtain rail around the bay which would have been a nightmare.
  • Exactly this - the ceiling above the bay has been lowered to finish exactly above the windows, there is then a 'step-up' to the rest of the room where the actual lintel is. I think it will be wood, so should be OK.

I've been given the number of a local bloke who has done a few people's bay windows so I may ask them, but will try the track suggested up-thread first.

Also found on ebay locally a pelmet and track for a bay window that just screws into the ceiling many times along the length of it, that's been removed from a house similar to ours. May consider that too . .

    Thank you

If it is the one I think it is, it would be silly not to put a bid in. It will probably cost more in petrol to collect, but if it fits, well worth it.

Another option is the IKEA Vidga track - Doesn't appear to be hugely expensive...
