Can I replace the rubber round the door?

Hi everyone, my mums got a couple of doors where the rubber is letting water in, and presumably heat out, she's contacted a local company who, over the phone, without looking, told her that the manufacturer fits these, they can't be changed. I think that sounds very strange, it's just a strip of rubber.
Is this true? Id be happy to try myself, the old ones feel glued in too me so not sure how to remove them, or what I'd need to replace them so any advice would be great.
Thanks, Mark

Whoever you spoked to is largely talking nonsense. Yes, the rubber gaskets on most upvc doors and windows can be changed. There's plenty of videos on Youtube and such showing you how to do it. The trick is finding the right sized gasket. Having said that, rather than the gasket you might want to check that the door is closing tightly enough and if not, adjust it.

If you hunt around long enough on ebay, you can find almost anything for sale.

My guess is that the rubber was either clipped in, or slid in from one end.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Ideally, remove a small section then match it up on ebay - I've changed window seals, which are the same design - they usually push in easily with a bit of lubrication such as washing up liquid
  • Thanks everyone, I've ordered a sample pack with a variety of designs in to see if one fits. Much appreciated.
