The new Renault Scenic looks nice and they do a 7 seat version. It's a good family car. The Citroen C4 grand tourer would be another option. If you want a smart/upmarket interior then you could look at an SUV (GLS, X5, Discovery).

I'm thinking something like a Citroen Berlingo or a Fiat Doblo would be good options to consider.

I am thinking these would be a bit more realistic, parts for them would be easier to get. If you get rearended on those import tailgates - it's going to have to be a expensive repair job - not a quick breakers yard hatch replacment.

My budget would get me an older model [2009-2015] and the older models - it's hard to get petrols for them, they're predominantely diesels and the ULEZ rules these out.

I'm starting to warm to do dacias, before they were like vans with big ugly black bumpers - but now they look alright.

I feel that Dacia would be the cars which will be driven into 20year old territory, like a lot off 2000 models cars that are on the road now (such as the one I'm currently driving).

The fancy electronics, headlight units that cost £2000+ will kill off these modern cars after 10 years when the wiring issues start surfacing.

I heard a BMW tech diagnose a door lock module fault on a new cars door lock wiring. The car considers it as a major fault and car wont start because of it. In an old car, you simply open the passngers door, and then you reach in and open the drivers door. Not with new cars -- you need to get a recovery vehicle called out to change the door lock module for high 3 figures.

  • I am after a 7 seater because of youung family. With 2 car seats the whole row is taken up with bulky car seats and we ont have boot space. a 7 seat gives my wife an option to be behind the kids to check up on them on long drives).

Daft reason to get a larger car with 7 seats.

Not forgetting that getting into rear most seats with baby seats in the middle row will be nigh on impossible.
Would be better with a Mondeo sized 5 seater.

You could go in via the boot, but you'd be pretty wedged there and wouldn't be able to check on or deal with the kids anyway.

Much better to either get a wider 5 seater and sit in the middle, or get a pair of £10 child seat mirrors.
  • Ford S-Max.

Car-like style, driving and interior, high specifications and doesn't look like a wardrobe on wheels.

Now on my 2nd S-Max, a total of 4 years owning one after Ford Galaxy's for 10 years, can't fault it.

Can't believe you would recommend a car with 1 star NCAP for a family?
