The root cause is far more complicated than that analysis.

It always is far more complicated and a proper analysis would fill several books. But for clarity, I don't think the decision to privatise our energy systems was the root cause. I think it was the way they were privatised, and the energy strategies (or lack of) adopted by successive governments since.

No, you should look at E.ON UK profits which is our energy supplier. You will likely find it difficult to find this information as it doesn't make such an exciting news story as the profits that E.ON the German global energy companies makes.
