in the great Virgin / AA debate my love for AA went out the window when on our flight home diet coke was rationed to one cup 3/4 filled with ice per request. On the way out the drinks were served per can when they came round.

Airlines have always asked me if I want ice or not.
Did you not think of asking for a drink without?

Yes. Same scenario as the fast food industry, no ice means you should get more "drink".

What was the fare difference?

AA have been stingy with drinks for a while (you pay for alcohol:eek:)

Virgin give free drinks quite often, including alcohol:j

However AA fares IMHO tend to be significantly lower.

Being tight with their drinks is how you get cheaper fares. When they serve out of cans you can sometimes get away with asking for asking for another can. Either that or buy drinks before you get on!

I travelled on AA about 10 years ago and they had no veggie meals so they gave me a bag of boiled sweets!

I was just shocked at the difference on the way out and way back with regards to drinks.

Also the cabin crew ladies were at least 50 years older on the way back.

going to order kosher next time, far more dinner for your fare!

That's for taking it into the airport past security.
You have to dump your bottle of water, but can then buy another one in departures and take it on the plane. Manchester and Birmingham both worked like that (until today), dont know about anywhere else.

I've flown with AA on several occassions and they always seem ok to me. Yoiu can get drinks whenever you want, within reason and the staff are always very friendly. Maybe this is because they are older?!
We are flying with virgin next time we go to America. Has anyone been on both AA and virgin? If so how do virgin compare to AA?

I've flow with both recently.

Virgin staff are usually more pleasant and younger!

Cabin service is OK with free alcohol before and during dinner. They also don't mind (too much) if you ask for a refill.:beer:

Lots of free soft drinks and usually a goody pack for kids and an overnight kit for adults.

If you want to save money fly AA, for more comfort fly Virgin.
