Worth using eaves protectors on roof?

Our house was built in 1970, the roof seems structurally sound but the felt into the guttering has rotted away and we have water running down behind the guttering and dripping off the fascia/soffits in heavy rain, we’ve also found that the pvc fascias were attached to the old wooden ones, which are also rotten.
We could have the plastic protectors under the roof tiles fitted for around £500 but as the roof is now 50+, I imagine we’ll need to replace it in the next few years? I have no idea of the cost of a new roof on our 3 bed semi - is £10k realistic?

I have to say I’ve not noticed any neighbouring houses having new roofs in the last few years, they were all built at the same time and there are a good 60-70 of them.

Felt support trays ('eaves protectors') are really useful and can be possibly re-used later should you need to re-do the entire roof although, I think, £500 is mainly for the job, not the materials.

A clay tile roof should be good for 75-100 years. Good quality slate, 100-150 years. Concrete and synthetic tiles, maybe 50.If you are replacing the roof, including tiles, £10-15K would be a reasonable ballpark figure depending on location. The size & complexity of the roof will also affect the overall cost.Whilst scaffolding is up, it would be worth doing all those other jobs that you might otherwise use a ladder for. e.g. painting the exterior. Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.1 -
Yes the trays are very cheap in themselves.
Neighbour’s brother is a roofer and we’ll need scaffolding up at the back as there’s a 3m wide conservatory.0 -
They are concrete tiles I think.0

Sometimes you find the felt at the eaves has rotted a bit further up, and you need to take a few more courses off to get some new felt in.1

We are having new soffits and fascias on our 1960s house. The builders have found quite a lot of the old timbers the tiles are nailed to are rotten so are having to replace them before the fascias go on. I'm glad we're getting the builders to change the fascias rather than a upvc supplier as I think that there would be the likelihood the new stuff would be bodged onto the old timbers.

The concrete tiles on our 1974 bungalow were fine for re-use and the support timbers for the fascia boards etc were sound as well. I can't say the same for the roofing battens and bitumen felt which we replaced with better modern equivalents. Each property has to be judged individually.0
