Fire exit concerns looking for an alternative

@drinkduffbeers
Have rented flats above shops a couple of times when working away from home and one very big plus point was how peaceful the flats were in the evening and Sundays, the shopkeepers were good neighbours and I think they were glad to have someone living above shops for the added security it brought.
The fire exit side of things needs to be kept simple, good luck in your new flatPlay with the expectation of winning not the fear of failure. S.Clarke1 -

You would be suprised. There was a period of about a month here last year when all the local ones were getting broke into by what appears to have been the same person, at least 6 that I know of were done. Small amounts of money, equipment they could sell, and poor security.Doozergirl said:I'm wondering why a hair salon needs a locked gate.“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”

I know shops can change but the current tenant has a great relationship with the shops . They are both small units with huge footfall so will both have a good chance of staying let in the upcoming turmoil . But I reckon Sunday’s will be great when they are both shut up
As for my concerns with the padlock and chain. The first reply really put my mind at rest with the bolt cutters idea. I will have a dedicated set on hand by the front door. Simple no messing with keys or padlocks Chop chop 😁1 -
I am sure a bit of hirsute police work solved that.davemorton said:

I can imagine a small door-size gate with a normal lock (operated only by keys) built into a half of the big gate.drinkduffbeers said:Any ideas on a padlock and chain alternative which I’d happily pay forSome random picture:

If you do get something you are happy with regarding this gate, what about the next landlord or if the landlord decides to make alterations to the commercial premises to accommodate a new tenant. Landlords have a habit of putting their commercial tenants first. I found this out through bitter experience when once I rented a flat above a shop that changed to an estate agents.0
