Messed up Gatehouse application

Hi. I’m having trouble with my new account.
I sent a £1 test payment from my Chase account yesterday, but it’s not showing in my account today. My nominated account is a different one - my current account with Santander. Gatehouse say my nominated account needs authentication and they will send a code in the post. Is this the normal procedure? I have tried changing my nominated account to my Chase account instead, but Gatehouse says they cannot authenticate it and to try another account. Any idea how I can fix this please? I don’t really want to wait for the post to be able to transfer more money into the account. Thanks.

I should have put this post in Easy Access Discussion. Not sure if it can be moved or how to do that0

I opened an account with Gatehouse yesterday and sent a £1 test before lunch which was there straight after. I then sent a larger amount (£3999) which still hadn't appeared by 11pm but thankfully was there this morning as today's date but saying 'posted 01:09:22' in the description. So there are possibly delays due to likely increased volume as they do not have their own banking licence so payments have to be reallocated from Gatehouse's own account with Barclays.
That said, if you applied stating that your Santander account was your nominated account then sent the test payment from your Chase account I would expect Gatehouse to reject it and return it to your Chase account. For the sake of £1 and a bit (I would use a different amount to be able to differentiate the payments) I would send a test payment from Santander.
I am also waiting for the letter with the code to 'authenticate my nominated bank account'. To me all it indicates is my ability to receive post at the address I gave. I am presuming that I will be unable to withdraw funds until after this process at which point I shall undertake a test withdrawal before sending more funds.
Good luck with sorting.1 -
I think this is a standard procedure in the banking sector (I had the same with HL)-
The logic being that if someone hacked your account, they would be presented with the option to withdraw money to your bank account (not very useful to a hacker).
They could change the bank account, but a letter would be posted to your house as additional security. If this letter wasn't posted, they could log into your account, change your bank account to theirs, and withdraw all of your savings instantly.
Know what you don't2 -
Seems you have to wait until you get the authentication code before you can change the nominated account. In the meantime, you should still be able to make deposits from your registered nominated account. I have made 3 deposits so far and am still waiting for my authentication code, too. There's now a message in the app saying I can't make withdrawals until I have authenticated my nominated account.1

Yeah, I having good fun with mine.
Opened EA yesterday as had already got an account with Gatehouse Bank, however, forgot that this was one of the many institutions that only allow one route for funds in and out, as so used to multiple routes with some of my other savings providers.
Anyway, I sent a test payment from Monzo AND a test payment from Chase, to see which arrived first.
Answer? Neither as my nominated account is Nationwide 🤦♂️
Not sure why I had chosen that account last year as I rarely use it due to being unable to add new payees, a glitch that Nationwide, to this day, have been unable to resolve, even with replacement readers. This, of course, makes it an ineffective nominated account as I cannot actually send any money to Gatehouse as cannot create them in my payees!
So, I have requested change of nominated account and am now waiting for the authentication letter too.
Neither test deposit has been returned yet, and my Gatehouse balance is still £0.00
As the sums involved are <£3, I am not concerned at this time. I shall just play the waiting game.
Update: Did just give Gatehouse a call, as I had a free moment and, after short time on hold, spoke to the lovely Courtney, who confirmed that she could see my attempted deposits and confirmed that they would be returned to their source accounts soon. So all good

Thanks for all your very helpful comments. I’m going to do a small test deposit from my nominated account and see what happens.0

Do you have your debit card “frozen” in the nationwide app? I had a similar problem and that’s what caused it. Nationwide staff weren’t much help, found it myself.wiseonesomeofthetime said:

You have only gone and solved what Nationwide could not, either online or in branch.
New payee created without issue, once I had turned off the freeze on my debit card.
Wasn't even aware I had switched it on tbh, though clearly did.
Thank you @Bemr
Only issue now of course is that I have already requested a change of nominated account 🤦♂️ 😂1 -
Have you considered a formal complaint to Nationwide, offering them the solution to the issue introduced by an utterly non-sensical piece of code? You can always share the compo that they'll no doubt pay you with @Bemr.wiseonesomeofthetime said:
