Getting rid of McAfee firewall?!

According to Windows Security Centre (Vista), I have 2 firewalls switched on, one of which is the McAfee one that came pre-installed on my computer. However I have un-installed it (and am using a different one), but for some reason it's still showing as switched on, which can apparently conflict with the other one?

I can't seem to find any trace of McAfee in my computer other than in the Firewall section of Security centre.... is this going to be an issue? If so, how can I get rid of it?

Any advice would be much appreciated,

Thanks in advance

    Hi
Try getting in contact with Mcafee by e-mail explaining your situation, i know people who had Norton pre-installed and it worked for them. Basically they talked them through the process, they may try and talk you into purchasing Mcafee but they will be able to help you.

I had the same problem and downloaded an uninstaller, I think from the McAfee website. Try googling McAfee uninstaller.

McAfee and Norton can be very difficult to remove completely. I have found System Mechanic is very good at removing unwanted programs. It is a available free triel from > http://iolo.com/sm/7/std/default.aspx

Ok, have downloaded this program but can't see how to to delete the McAfee firewall. As I said, I've already uninstalled it, so there's no McAfee folder as such. It's just that Security Centre seems to think it's still running.

If system mechanic can indeed remove it, please advise how to do this, thanks.

    Hi Herman,
It is difficult to remove all the traces of McAfee and Norton. Did you use the McFee unistaller or Windows "Add or Remove Programs" when you first did the uninstall?

    Open System Mechaninc

    First:
    Click on clean
    Click on unistall software
Look for any reference(s) to "McFee" programs
    select item(s) and unistall

    Second:
    Click on tab "maintain"
Click on tab "system maintenance wizard"
Check and tick tabs for the options you want, i.e. all the boxes exept defrag

    Hope that helps?

When I first tried to uninstall, i used "add/remove programs".

As for system mechanic: I don't know if we have different versions Ior perhaps because I have an evaluation version), but there are no "clean" or "maintain tabs?! I've looked at the all the options available on it and there's nothing obvious to try.
