Any thoughts on what this is?

Recently bought a house and have started doing the back garden. Lifted a load of slabs but one slab appeared to just be some poured concrete. I thought maybe someone has just filled an odd sized space with concrete rather than cut a slab but when I've tried to dig it out it appears to go pretty deep and it's really solid. I'm scared to dig more in case it's connected to a drain/pipes and I damage something. Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on whether this could be drain related or is it normal to pour a large amount of concrete into a hole?

My first thought was that someone had fillled in an old manhole.

Or capped a well or plugged a spring.

Looks like it was fairly square before you started chipping at it. So it wasn't covered up with a slab? In that case, perhaps it was a base for something like a big birdbath or statue or garden ornament that was still there when the slabs were laid around it. Then maybe the previous owner just lifted the top bit and took it with them.

Any photos of the area in the sale documents? Would neighbours remember if something was there?

    Or capped a disused well.
A remote possibility that there is a body under there. Any sign of a Tesco bag for Life ?
