Ceiling drapes, save heat energy?

Hi
In the effort to save money this winter I'm moving everything into one room so less to heat.
I live in a ground floor flat, there is little/no insulation between my flat and upstairs.
If i were to buy fairly thick material and create a drape ceiling. Like you see in wedding tents where it's raised in the middle (around the light).
Would this offer much insulation and make the room quicker and cheaper to heat, it would be like a temporary false ceiling.
I've done a bit of googling and haven't found anyone trying this yet.
Let me know your thoughts.
Many thanks

Possibly no-one tries it because they do not want a layer of cooled, humid air above the tent ceiling thing.
How would you prevent or deal with the massive condensation and black mould issues?1 -
I'd be wary of the fire-risk from tieing fabric around the light fitting!0

Having lived in bedsit land in my youth,it is not a lifestyle I would recommend, living ,eating and sleeping in one room presumably not well ventilated would not be good for you.
Before winter starts could you paint sitting room and bedroom in warm colours to help with the ambience of rooms.
Your idea of a ceiling drape could be adjusted to getting kit to turn bed in four poster and with electric blanket and right bedding could be quite snug.Play with the expectation of winning not the fear of failure. S.Clarke1 -
Lol! Guilty as charged! ...but I still don't think I'd be happy to see fabric wrapped round a live electrical outlet!Alderbank said:
You're showing your age if you remember the old filament bulbs from days gone by. A 7W LED bulb scarcely gets hand warm.Apodemus said:I'd be wary of the fire-risk from tieing fabric around the light fitting!1 -
Thanks all.
you’ve all raised concerns I had thought off to and I’m looking into.
I’ve been looking into flame retardant material but going to spend the weekend researching.
Ive done all the energy saving possible so now thinking of new ideas. It so frustrating when you’ve done every money saving thing possible and you still need more!1 -
OP, it sounds like this winter is going to be pretty miserable for you if you are holed up in one room! Try and get out and about as much as you can and keep home for basic functions of living. No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.0 -
Isn't that called a bed-sit? I don't recall having too many bad times in a bed-sit; it was a definite step up from the old bedroom at home.Rosa_Damascena said:OP, it sounds like this winter is going to be pretty miserable for you if you are holed up in one room!
