Boiler Service - British Gas
Hi - hopefully this is the right place.
A friend said I should share this story on the forum. So last Friday, I saw an advert to get my boiler serviced, it hadn’t been done since before pandemic so needed doing before winter. There was a deal from British Gas for £49 for the service plus I would pay for any work that needed doing. I had to pay by direct debit and opted not to renew annually but would get a note each year reminding me if I wanted them to do it the following year.
Last night (Tuesday) I got three notifications on my phone from the bank at 10pm stating that ‘the new direct debits had been set up’. All three from British Gas. I rang this morning and cancelled them all and the service visit as they couldn’t explain what they were for exactly but the bank confirmed they were legit and not fraudulent but were all slightly different accounts and trading names. So really just warning people that this seems extremely dodgy in my eyes. Even Barclays thought it seemed out of order. I’ve also said if they try and take any money they won’t get very far and I’ve kept screen shots of everything.
