What would be the approx cost of a downstairs bedroom (say 12 by 12 feet) single storey with sloping tiled roof and adjoining wet room to be added to the front side of our 3 bedroom semi - for the purpose of disabled use - In SW England - brick built

Gas supply - is that the meter or just internal piping? If the meter then it won’t be cheap . Iirc I was quoted £2k to move it2006 LBM £28,000+ in debt.

Currently a few builders I know are working on £3.5ksqm single storey, however they aren't willing to quote but are working on a cost plus basis.1

Why do. I have to pay to move the meter though?

Why do. I have to pay to move the meter though? If the meter needs to be moved, that's not something a builder (nor even a plumber/heating engineer/whatever) can do - only your supplier is allowed to move the meter. If the meter doesn't actually need to be move, and it's just the pipework that need re-routing, then any properly qualified GSR person can do that. There's some useful info in this link. Obviously the link is for SSE, but the same rules will apply whoever your supplier is.

We need plans. It's impossible to guess without. What is your budget? That's a quicker thing to sense check. If the meter can stay and the extension be designed around it, then that's a plus. Or a move of less than a metre is cheaper iirc.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Moving your gas meter up to 90 centimetres
If your meter is inside your home, we can move it up to 90cm from the emergency cut-off valve.
We can only do this if:
- The meter has a flexible hose connector
- It’s staying on the same side of the wall
- The wall is clear
If all these apply, we may be able to move your gas meter for free. You’ll need to contact us to check.
I'm only going by what their website says (I know you're far more knowledgeable about such things than I am!), and I'm assuming most suppliers would be similar.
