Suspect EDF is overcharging me for electric

100w x 24hrs x 365 = 876kWh/yr x (Oct rate) 52p = £455.52
Might be worth looking for a more economical replacement
So, the OP should certainly investigate replacement if that is the actual use.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Ours is a normal fridge freezer but probably at least 15 years old. As of now used 1kWh today and generally it hits 1.6-1.7kWh per day. Surprising how much it mounts up from checking with the monitor as we have 2 of them as well. Replacement or rationalisation coming up!Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0

While it's not American (which i imagine you mean one of those large double door ones), but it's pretty damn big and has loads of space inside. Also we have it almost completely full all the time. But you forget FF are not on all the time, they cycle as when it reaches the desired temp it turns off.
Both fridges run about a 3rd of the time, I spent almost a whole day in the kitchen keeping an eye on them. So about £151, which I think is reasonable, having said that I have turned it down a little bit because it does seem to over frost a lot, so we've turned it down from 5 to 4 and it seems much better on the frost front and should help with the consumption too0 -
Alnat1 said:You give a set reading for the 2 fridge freezers but they cycle on and off, use more when you open them more often or put in new, not cold enough, food. Did you monitor them over a week or so to get an average or are those figures a snapshot of one moment?
Do you have any kind of set top/sky box or sound system with your TVs? They can use quite a bit on standby. Touch lamps, microwave/cooker with clocks, auto garage door, CCTV/alarm systems, wired doorbell, plug in air fresheners? Hopefully if your heating the tank, no electric showers? Lots of use of hairdryer/straighteners/tongs? Using cooking devices several times a day?
No set top/sky box, as stated before, I watch/do everything via a desktop PC connected to my OLED, which draws 80w.
I had touch lamps but replaced the light bulbs from 25w to 2.5w LED's, actually brighter than the old bulbs but we lose the dimming capability which is no issue for us. Microwave turned off at the mains unless we use it, which we haven't in over a month. We do have CCTV and I am thinking of investigating into that. No wired doorbell or plug in air fresheners. We use a hairdryer for a few minutes after a shower but no straighteners/tongs. We use gas for cooking, oven is electric but I can't remember the last time we used it, wife is Chinese so does everything in her gas powered wok0 -
CCTV for me was 0.8kWh per day. Can you not use a Firestick or similar to watch TV, considerably less power consumption than a laptop. You can get dimmable LED lamps.Living the dream in the Austrian Alps.0

If you can leave the energy monitors on each FF for at least a week you get a much better average of their use rather than guessing they are off 2/3rds of the time. There's lots of odd peaks that only happen every few days, I found out after 30 day monitoring with the Tapo.
Personally, we are realising that running 2 FF for us is now false economy. Yes, we can buy in bulk cheaper etc. but the cost of then storing the "bargains" is eaten up by the cost of the electricity. Better to let the shops pay to store stuff and buy only what we will use in a short time. We CAN live without a packet (and a spare?) of every vegetable that can be frozen. We're running down number 2 to be switched off for a while, maybe used a bit around Christmas/New Year.Barnsley, South Yorkshire

I have an big Samsung American Fridge Freezer. It was A rated when I bought it (before they changed the grading) it has been using 3-4kW per day when the temperatures were higher. Its consumption is way higher than the "Advertised" amount per year. But it would be a false economy to replace it. Now the temperatures have stated coming down it is using less.0

I worked out a new more energy efficient non-American FF would probably pay for itself in a couple of years.Barnsley, South Yorkshire

You seem to have a smart meter that's actually smart. Do you also get half-hourly readings shown on EDF's website? Do these show when during the day you are using your electricity?I know Gerry1 doesn't post much at the moment but have you tried his meter sanity test? You can probably ignore the first step (it's to help you find the correct meter for a flat in a cupboard full of them) but the blackout test and the known-load test will both help to show if the meter is working as intended.N.
