Smart meter installation
I am currently on bulb using a prepayment meter and planning to preload my electric meter with a substantial payment on 30th of September, to get the cheaper rate and mitigate the price rise on 1st October.
I have also organised a smart meter installation booked for 24th October.
My question is, when the new smart meter is installed and my credit transferred will I be charged at the new more expensive rate or the pre October 1st rate when I originally purchased the electricity?

Most likely the latter as I am assuming it would be treated the same as having credit balance on the account (not fixed to any specific pricing).
However, you should check with your energy supplier1 -
I'm going to assume that as soon as it hits the Smart meter there is a strong likelihood that it will start being charged out at the new unit rates - as the meter won't recognise anything else?🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

That’s my fear, going to contact Bulb see what they say.0

Your Smart meter will definitely charge you at the current prices. There’s little point in you putting as much credit as you can before 1st October. You may as well just put enough on to last until the 24th.0

Prices apply when you spend the credit, not when you load it onto the meter.
edit: Usually - although it seems that some aren't clever enough to do that and the price only changes the next time you load.0 -
I preloaded my meter back in March but could only manage a full months worth, but that worked and I saved over £60 compared to the next months spend. So if I preload at the end of this month, enough for 3 months I could save around £300. I might have to postpone the installation of the smart meter as it has no real benefit to the energy prices anyway.0

Just found out the maximum I can load in to the meter is £2550
