Miss-sold TalkTalk telephone line/broadband

I've recently moved to Rugby from Leeds, and continued using BT as my telephone supplier. After 2/3 months and after experiencing some 'minor' problems with them, whilst walking through The Clock tower in Rugby I was approached by a Talk Talk representative selling there Talk2 package - broadband and line rental £18 (free evening and weekend calls), which compared favourably with BT where I was paying about £35 for about the same. I asked the question 'what about BTs cancellation fees?' and I was aware that I had recently signed a 12 month contract with them. I was told that TalkTalk would pay for them, as they were actively trying to poach BT customers!! This was confirmed 3 times..and I signed up

I was horrified to 1 month later receive a final BT from BT including £210 for cancellation fees. When contacting TalkTalk I was told that this was not there policy!! I've cancelled my direct debit, have refused to pay anything and emailed a formal complaint, dispite several calls requesting payment (and now a final demand letter) I have received no acknowledgment nor explanation as to why I was mis-sold the product.

I am fuming and so unsatified with the TalkTalk customer services, they seem to think that if they ignore my complaint it will somehow disappear and I will pay my arrears

Has anyone else experienced a similar situation?

I am at the end of my tether and don't know what should I do??

  • I had something similar... I sent an emailed complaint to charles dunstone and got a response farely quickly.

They listened to all the sales calls and this proved that I had asked about the BT cancellation charges. got £70 out of them.

Also, BT state that the cancellation fee depends on how long remaining on your contract. eg if 3 months it'll be 3x10.50, but they state a max of £70...

    hope that helps a bit

Its up to £70 to cancel a line, plus you would have to pay for any call package, and broadband cancellations.;)

You can complain to Ofcom http://www.ofcom.org.uk/complain/landline/slamming/
