Electricity CAP Rates for October applied now

I have had a look at my energy account and my supplier is charging my electricity at 51.57p per kWh. I am on the standard variable tariff and have been since April this year. This rate now applied looks like it is the October announced rate and yet is being shown on my account as my current rate. Is this allowed under the regulations?

EDF. I have my account open at the moment, online, and it shows my electricity rate as 51.57p...

It doesn't say "from 1st October" or anything like that

    Unit rate: 27.86p per kWh
    Standing charge: 48.13p per day

    Gas (ends 30 September 2022)
    Unit rate: 7.367p per kWh
    Standing charge: 27.22p per day

New ratesElectricity (starts 01 October 2022)
    Unit rate: 51.57p per kWh
    Standing charge: 49.14p per day

    Gas (starts 01 October 2022)

Are you sure it doesn't say the same?

It says I am on "Standard (Variable)" and has a box - 1 box - titled "My unit rates"
  • I've just checked my EDF account online. When I go into My Tariff (the option from the menu on the left of the screen) it shows both the new and old rates (for Economy 7 in my case). This is new today. A couple of thoughts - is it possible you've seen this and confused the old and new rates? Or maybe EDF's website info has had a bit of a wobble when they've put this extra information on?

OK. So I have gone back to "Home" from the menu on the left of the screen. My account details are still showing, I am still logged in, my account number is showing correctly.... I have then selected "Tariff Details" - 6th item down the menu list on the left....It then shows my address (correctly), says "Standard (Variable)", "Tariff End Date - Not Applicable", My Payment Plan - Budget Direct Debit (Monthly) with my current amount below that, then
My unit ratesElectricity unit rate: 51.57p per kWh
Daily standing charge: 49.14p per day

Gas unit rate: 14.761p per kWh
Daily standing charge: 28.48p per day

Looking within the app, mine also just has a single box, laid out as follows:

    Tariff Name             Welcome variable
    End Date                 No end date

    Unit rate (from 01/10/22)
    14.737p per kWh

    Standing Charge (from 01/10/22)
    28.48p per day

Thinking back though, I  believe EDF produced some confusing information for some people last time round where it appeared the rates had been changed ahead of time, too.
