Taps ! A silly question

Hi all

Bit of a stupid question, but here goes.

What is the discernible difference between bath and sink taps? I bought some bath taps from a Focus closure store, but I'm planning to use them on a vanity unit sink? Is this possible or am I being stupid?

Is the length of the thread longer on the bath taps than on the sink taps or are they interchangeable?

Any thoughts much appreciated!:T

  • Hi

Bath taps are 3/4" thread basin are 1/2" Will it fit through the hole in the basin?
Bath taps tend to be a bit larger in size than basin so might look a bit odd on a basin.

My current house has bath taps on the basin in the bathroom. The former owner, who was in the building trade, bought matching Italian taps for both bath & basin & I have to say that they look grand & stunning & a real statement. Everybody who goes into my bathroom comments on how fab the taps look on the basin.

I'm hoping to do something similar when I move to my next house.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

as all/most feeds are 15mm for basin taps, you will have to change the the pipe to 22mm for the bath taps.
a 15/22mm reducer will do it.

and you will need 2 x 22mm tap connectors.

  • I hope that you have not been conned by focus!

One near me was closing down and was selling Gorilla bar sets with 50% off and they were £15.49 for the set.

I went to B&Q and they had the exact same set for £14.99

Much of the sale items can be found cheaper elsewhere.

The bath taps might fit through the holes as many basin/sink holes are oversized and often require something to centre the taps in the holes.

As pointed out already you will need to change the 1/2 inch connector to a 3/4 inch connector.

How to fit taps can be seen here- fitting taps
