Car completely dead..not even central locking not even registering ..help!
Guys just wonder if you can shed some light on a sudden problem I have with my car where it is not even registering my remote key to unlock it.
No dash lights..nothing, like someone has literally flicked the off switch on it.
My immediate thoughts are completely dead battery but have always experienced a tick tick tick on a dead battery as an indicator is dead.
We have not started it for 3 days as we have been away whereas it got used daily , but any ideas on where we should look in the morning or the likely issue is appreciated
Cheers as always

..sounds like it could be the battery....how old is it?...they can "die" very suddenly. Maybe the battery was on it's last legs, but managed to work if used every day, but 3 days "alone" has finally killed it off? I would try the battery first...maybe somebody with some jump leads?

Test across the battery with a multimeter for voltage, assuming you can access the battery. No free lunch, and no free laptop1

And while you're looking at the battery, check the cables connected to the terminals are tight.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.1 -
My car does that if left for extended periods, it hibernates. Shuts down the sensor for the remote unlocking and anything that
may cause battery drain.
Open with the key and it all springs to life. Certainly works well, during the lockdown the car did not move for over 3 months
and the battery voltage did not drop below 12.4 volts, plenty of power to start the car safely without blowing fuses.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...1 -
Battery in the remote key flat?0

When you parked up last, did you manually switch the interier light on and forgot to switch it off...... I did last week. Never even noticed it on through the window when it got dark....... completely flattened the battery..... no anything.0

A few weeks ago I locked my car but had to come back to it 5 minutes later as I had forgotten something. The key fob was flashing red but nothing from the car, couldn't unlock the car manually with the key, lot of messing around for an hour. Fortunately the windows were down an inch and I tried to reach in to grab something. The alarm went off and after that everything worked fine. The car has been fine ever since.
I don't know if this story will help but it may if you are still locked out.0 -
I guess the OP is not going to share any result with us.0

Apologies, the result is a fully drained battery. The alternator was checked and is fine. Nothing to suggest any form of residual drain, just a battery that had seen better days and just 'died' . Due to the car being used daily it topped itself up during normal driving only becoming apparent when left stood for a few days

Out of interest, how old was the battery? They normally reckon on about 5-7 years lifespan for an average battery. Glad you got it sorted, glad it was something "boring and completely logical" so to speak! And thanks for updating us. It's always helpful to hear the resolution - hopefully it will be of help to someone else in the future who has a similar issue and does a Google search.
