Hi, if the price cap for electricity is 34kwh and standing charge is 46, why have EDF said, my new tariff will be, 35-98kwh and standing charge 48-600

Welcome to the forum. The cap is an average figure, the rates vary depending where you are in the country.Steveshrew said:Hi, if the price cap for electricity is 34kwh and standing charge is 46, why have EDF said, my new tariff will be, 35-98kwh and standing charge 48-601 -
EDF have published this.

Spoke to my supplier - Shell energy today (12th Oct) to ask what my tariff is from 1st Oct, just told my electric standing charge is now 49.93 and not the 46 price cap? I am not in a fixed rate so why are they charging customers more (same with my mam) Are they allowed to do this?0

As we have already answered on your other post - you have misunderstood the price cap.helenm123 said:Spoke to my supplier - Shell energy today (12th Oct) to ask what my tariff is from 1st Oct, just told my electric standing charge is now 49.93 and not the 46 price cap? They are not overcharging you.0 -

After a bit more investigation - Shell energy said the standing charge cap depends on the area you live in, so that is why it is more than the cap. If this is the case then what is the point of having a cap if the energy companies can charge you more and the reason is because of the area you live in. If this is the case then the gov/Ofgem need to set out a new cap based on each area as the consumer is just going to be ripped off .

There is a different cap in every region. The suppliers did not decide this, the government did.
This is not secret. This is not hidden. This is not overcharging. This is not ripping you off.
This is how it works and has done from the start.1 -
As per usual iwth the majority of rip off claims, there is no rip off. You dont understand it and have decided that because you don't understand, it is a rip off. You are wrong as has been pointed out to you elsewhere before you made this post.helenm123 said:Spoke to my supplier - Shell energy today (12th Oct) to ask what my tariff is from 1st Oct, just told my electric standing charge is now 49.93 and not the 46 price cap? Funny you should say that, they already do …helenm123 said:
