Double yellow ticket, but off road in a bay - Derbyshire Peak District

Hello friends,
I was out for a walk in the Derbyshire Peak District this weekend, only to come back to a PCN. As you can see on the attached photo, there were double yellows, but I, and my friends in two other vehicles, parked in what looked like a countryside, roadside parking bay. I parked at least 4' away from the yellow lines. The area we parked in was a mix of gravel and stones, and genuinely seemed to be an official space. No signs of 'no parking'.
Is there any way of contesting this ticket?

This appears to be a council (or real) PCN whereas we specialise in private parking charges from unregulated companies on this forum. I suggest therefore you take this over to our friends on pepipoo.com as they are the council and police motoring experts.
You will need to sign up on pepipoo with a non-hotmail email address then read the FAQs before posting both sides of your PCN with your query.I married my cousin. I had to...I don't have a sister. All my screwdrivers are cordless."You're Safety Is My Primary Concern Dear" - Laks3 -
Double yellow line parking restrictions generally extend from the DYLs to the boundary beyond them, so effectively the restriction applies to both sides of the lines. But PePiPoo will put you on the right track. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

OK, thanks. I'll get on that. Much appreciated!0

In my layman's opinion you're "bang to rights" - compare with the proper bays on the other side of the road in picture 1.
I assume all the vehicles on your side got a ticket?Jenni x2 -
No your bang to rights and a derserved ticket
Sorry but the peak district seems to be a magnet for people to park where they shouldnt1 -
Sadly tis true. You cannot park the 'wrong side' of a double yellow.
They always apply across the entire carriageway from wall/building boundary to boundary, including pavements the 'wrong' side of the lines, even if it might look a bit like a lay-by.
The double yellows are the signal not to park (unless you are exempt, such as briefly for unloading or picking up/dropping off a passenger - or for 3 hours as a Blue Badge holder).PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Quite a few people get caught out there, im guessing its near Mam torAs above the DYL restrictions reach to the boundarys of the highway , and that includes any verges and anything that looks like a lay-by .if you look at the side markings you will see DYLs and dashed lines, you can park up by the dashed lines, but not over the DYLsIf your in that area again, it might be worth parking in the main national trust mam tor car park, or some of the other parking areas
