Moving home and fixed tariff - can it follow me?

Hello.
I committed to fixed my gas and energy with Scottish Power back in Feb, even though I was paying more at the time compared to the capped rate.
I'm now moving home and Scottish Power customer services are saying I cannot bring my fixed tariff with me! The house is in the same postcode, and don't understand why this isn't possible...
Any ideas if this is correct?
I cannot see anything in their terms and conditions to suggest this isn't possible...

Hi,when you move into new house you are on a deemed contract with whoever the existing supplier is.You will need to contact them with meter readings then you can initiate a switch, though doubt if you will be able to keep your fix.1
-
Your contract with them is for the address you were staying when you took the fixed tariff.
Can they allow you to keep the cheap tariff? Yes of course they can.
Do they have to give you the cheap tariff on a new address? No they don't.
Some suppliers still allow you take the cheap fix with you, others don't.1 -
New account, new contract. Nothing to do with the postcode. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

When I moved my broadband with BT, nothing changes other than address...why would it be any different for another utility like gas or electricity?0
-
Because BT allows it. SP does not.
Where does it say in your contract you can take the tariff with you to another address?0 -
It's not a 'change of address'. It's a new account. they don't carry over. Except with a few tariffs with some suppliers, and SP is not among them.
As explained, even if you could retain it, you will be in a deemed account with the existing provider anyway, so would have to register with them first before switching back to SP. So there is no continuity. No free lunch, and no free laptop1
