Do we tell our replacement tenants about the neighbour?

OP  I think its very nice and decent that you want to warn the incoming tenant, shows you are a kind and considerate person. Would have been nice if someone had perhaps warned you about the nightmare neighbour, right? You could mention it but its possibly too late now. Maybe move on, and get on with your new place. I moved into a one bed flat ages ago and the letting agents waxed lyrical about the place. A week after moving in I ran into a chap who warned me about the family (yes family of 4 and a dog!) staying next door to me, telling me how how much of a nightmare they were!

Everybody reacts differently to noise.  The new Tenants might or might not have a problem with it.  They may themselves be into loud music and TV.  It is not your problem.  Nor was it ever the Landlord's problem.  The Council are the ones with enforcement powers to deal with such issues if necessary.
    ^ Exactly this ^

It's not your problem. As you say, the landlord will have been able to interview a choice of new tenants. It is in his interest to choose one who will want to stay longer than you did.
I am willing to bet that your chosen successor will be a Black Sabbath and Spinal Tap fan

Absolutely no point leaving a note which they won't see until it's too late to do anything about it (assuming the landlord or cleaners don't bin it before they even arrive).
  • Would not leave a note in writing warning them, can just backfire. If you want to be oft potential help to the new tenant, can somehow leave a note with a way to contact you (phone, social media) “in case of questions”. If they also have trouble with the noise upstairs, they might check in with you. If they are even noisier, then just get on with your new place.

As others have said, warning the new tenant won't achieve anything, its too late now they have signed a tenancy and are moving in.  I know I felt very sorry for any tenants moving into a rental property I moved out of (because of its state of hidden disrepair you only find out after moving in) but there was no way of warning them as the LL found them a few weeks after I moved out.

Its done now.., just move into your next property. Perhaps they'll be able to cope with the neighbour, who knows?

Or perhaps they'll be a dance music fan, and their own HiFi will have 'Surrounded by Neighbours' by Luke Vibert on repeat...

On the flip side do you wish someone had warned you before you moved in?

As others have pointed out, it's not before you move in that counts, it's before you sign up.

It is the landlord's problem, or it should be - he has a tenant that is making life impossible for other tenants, so much so that they want to leave.
I agree that it is too late for you to warn the other tenants now that they have signed the tenancy and warning them would probably cause you problems with your former landlord. The time to have warned them would have been before they signed. Let's hope the new tenants are the type who are hardly ever there and don't mind loud noise!
  • This was just your experience, it might not be the next persons. If I had my way I would tell everyone not to live near a road as I hate road noise to the point it makes me ill and it is always the first question I ask when moving house, but that's my look out.

Enjoy the peace now. Forget it.
