    So you've gone 2-3 years with making no payment.

    Your options are then

    1. to continue as you are. Should it get to the 6-year point, these debts become statute barred. They exist but cannot be enforced in the court. If, however, you do receive a formal pre-action letter, you would need to respond.

    2. engage with a no-fee debt help agency, who can potentially do DROs, like Stepchange or Citizens Advice. This would probably involve re-starting the 6-year clock.

    With a DRO they would look at partner income in order to allocate a fair share of the household expenses. There is some leeway on this but the two organisations I mentioned have tightened up a lot in the past few years in terms of 'compliance'.
