People's Energy to British Gas

Good morning, we were briefly with People's Energy last year before they went into administration.  I was £38 in credit on the day we moved house and we were told PE's were transferring to British Gas.  In my new home, we were automatically placed with Bulb (who also went into administration).  To this day, i have never received my credit amount from BG despite writing several letters to them and OFGEM.  Has anyone else had any experience like this?

Ofgem does not deal with consumer complaints: your remedy, if any, is via the Energy Ombudsman.
You need to wait 8 weeks without reply, or be in receipt of a deadlock letter.

Have you received a final bill from Peoples Energy showing the credit?
  • Yes I did at the time but of course now they have gone off line and I don't think I kept a copy of it.  British Gas just keep fobbing me off saying the administrators haven't finalised everything yet but I am worried they may have paid my credit into the account of my purchasers of my old house?
  • Hi Macman, just had a look on the Ombudsman's website.  Says they don't deal with complaints regarding switching.

People's Energy don't have a supply license any longer, so you cannot complaint to the Ombudsman,

You need to complain about BG. That means you need to follow the complains process, Raise a formal complain with them and either get a deadlock letter or wait 8 weeks before you can go to the ombudsman.

If they are saying they have not received a final bill yet, and you don't have any proof of the final bill and the credit amount they have to wait for the administrator.

What is the exact time line for you move and PE going bust?

  • I was with People's energy and moved to British gas. The credit I had was added to the money I paid to BG. Hope this helps.
