Single income home

I live on my own, why is nobody talking about people who live on their own, there is no help out there but it costs the same to heat a house with 1 income as it does to heat a house with 2 my mortgage still costs the same. The ONLY help is 25% off council tax but if I settled for a subpar partner I could only be paying 50% of everything not 100%. It’s already difficult and it’s just getting worse. What am I supposed to do? What help can i get?

What about the £400 of support that is coming off your electricity bill?Living the dream in the Austrian Alps.0

Taxpayers cannot be expected to fund the additional costs of people's lifestyle choices. As you say house I will presume more than one bedroom, so you could get a lodger.sharrison21 said:I live on my own, why is nobody talking about people who live on their own, there is no help out there but it costs the same to heat a house with 1 income as it does to heat a house with 2 my mortgage still costs the same. Nothing. Everyone can pick something that they think makes them a "special case" and need extra help.
What about a large family in one house that therefore needs a lot more hot water? We already had someone saying they wanted extra help because they worked from home rather than commuting.
Should be even easier for you because you only need to heat one room at a time.0 -
What about a family of 4 who also has only a single income? They will not get a council tax rebate and has 4 people to feed.
Seems to me you are much better off in comparison.3 -
Actually you'll use less energy being than having a second person on the house. As they may want the heating on when you out, they may cook when you're not in or have a bath/shower when you not in. The energy usage won't be (or shouldn't be double) but it'll be in my experience about a third more.sharrison21 said:I live on my own, why is nobody talking about people who live on their own, there is no help out there but it costs the same to heat a house with 1 income as it does to heat a house with 2 my mortgage still costs the same. ?
However as you say a second person living with you can pay half the bills...0 -
That’s what I’m saying. Nobody is talking about single income families only help is going to low income, but you could have 2 people with low income getting help but together would earn more than 1 person not getting help.pochase said:What about a family of 4 who also has only a single income? i work from home so i am using gas and electric all day… and I would expect that you would cook for both you and your partner so you wouldn’t cook at different times also would put laundry in together. And it still costs the same to heat a house if there’s 1 income or 2,3,4,20 incomes. Also as you said if they were cooking and cleaning at different times its still a third more more not double. Also my mortgage has gone up no matter how many people live here it still costs the same.Coffeekup said:

The help is targeted at households so £400 per energy account, so you are getting the same help as a couple or family?0

So you’re saying I shouldn’t get help because I chose not to have kids? Doesn’t matter if i get into debt because I don’t have kids. Doesn’t matter if i loose my house because I don’t have 4 people to feed? Why do I matter less? I’m still struggling, just because it’s just me doesn’t mean I’m not drowning.[Deleted User] said:Nothing. Everyone can pick something that they think makes them a "special case" and need extra help.

Do you get benefits? Than you will get the additional help, otherwise you don't.
Btw the extra help is paid per household, not per person, so two people living in the same home get the same as one living alone.0
