anyone successfully downloading with iplayer?

Hi - I'm just wondering if this service is supposed to be up and running or not.

I have been downloading the wmv file of the mighty boosh from the BBC3 website for the last few weeks but that option seems to have vanished. When I go to the Mighty Boosh page on the iplayer it asks me to install the download manager that I used to access the page in the first place ie doesn't seem to acknowledge it's existence - there is probably a simple reason for this but I can't figure it out - anyone else had this problem? Thanks in advance.

Thanks ormus - I've figured it out; the first help file I read just talked about enabling active X scripting but then I found some info on enabling the 'kontiki' add-on - did this and I'm downloading now.

i tried it but wasnt hugely impressed.
heavily restricted and the software is a resource hog.
i can get most stuff shown on other TV based torrent sites
  • and I'm downloading now
and uploading too, but then thats the way it works, since based on p2p

Those on very limited bandwidth accounts from their ISPs might want to be aware of that

Supposed to go 'live' christmas day I think - so would seem likely how it is now, is how it will be then (software wise)

I've unclicked the box that allows uploading - I've nothing against p-2-p but I only have dialup at home (download from elsewhere) so it's not very practical.
  • Seems I need to eat some words here,

Whilst the comments re p2p still stand, I was wrong in saying it was unlikely to be much different come the offcial launch

It seems they have now added the option to watch it in Flash
A bit jumpy in full screen (depending on content) for me but better than the p2p option (which is still there)

To which I was alerted by this thread
  • I've had it working in streaming mode and using the iplayer client

Got to say, i'd rather just watch it streaming. I've got a fast connection, and can download the files at > 500kb/s, but still, i can't put them on my ipod (yet) so its not useful for me. I did manage to crack the drm on the files, but the quality isn't great (choppy frame rate).

Torrents are here to stay till the bbc get it better.
