With EDF for gas currently 7.28p KWh. Going up to 14.67p Kwh
That is 101% increase not 80%
This is criminal
General strike needed to sort this shameful country out.

The percentage is on the whole bill, including standing charges and is for duel fuel average users, it also varies slightly by region.vision2009 said:With EDF for gas currently 7.28p KWh. Going up to 14.67p Kwh

It is not criminal, not everything you do not like is a crime.
Having a tantrum and shutting down the economy will make things worse, not better.1 -
80% is the average increase for four components
- standing charge gas
- standing charge electricity
- gas unit rate
- electricity unit rate
Are you also going to complain that the standing charges are not increased by 80%?0 -
A general strike will force the government to act.
we need to be more like the French people.0 -
The French are going to be paying their reduced energy costs in taxation for years to come...0

No it will not, if anything it will give them a reason to not help, the general strike damaging the economy meaning they can claim that further help is then unaffordable. It will also give the public an enemy to focus on, the strikers.vision2009 said:A general strike will force the government to act.
I agree, we should eat more cheese and fresh bread and drink more wine.vision2009 said:we need to be more like the French people.1 -
It is not criminal. I agree that energy prices as they are will result in many businesses going to the wall; unemployment will increase; peoples’ plans/savings health etc will be in jeopardy. This is what happened in the 70s and 80s because we are all at the mercy of ‘World events - dear boy’.vision2009 said:

I do not see how a General Strike will help. Suppliers have no option but to pay their wholesalers for the energy that we all consume. The Government can provide help but the money to do that has to come from somewhere; that is, taxes on businesses or individuals. We can all argue about windfall taxes on producers but these decisions do have long-term consequences.
Would a change of Government help? They would still face exactly the same fiscal challenges.0
