Morning all.
Family of five. It would be mostly for one pot meals and batch cooking dry pulses, however hopefully the meat eaters in the house will use it to cook joints, chickens etc.
The promotional photos for all of them show a whole chicken in the basket, but what size would we need to cook a large chicken or joint?

We use a 6 litre stove top pressure cooker, with the little wire stand & trivet we can comfortably do a 2kg chicken but have to cut about an inch off the drumstick bones, the bird sometimes stretches it's legs whilst cooking & pushes against the sealing ring causing pressure loss.We find to give it a less anemic look when cooked it pays to put it in the air fryer for 5-10mins to colour & crisp the skin .1

We use a 6l stove top pressure cooker too. There are only 2 of us now but there were 4 at home when we bought it. Just means there are more LOs to freeze than there were back then!

we have an 8L instant pot (was reduced as its got a huge ding in the side) and the only joint that wont fit is a leg of lamb (not that we'll be buying one of those soon given the price!) and full racks of pork ribs (need cutting in three) even had a 3kg pork leg in there no problem.
i know it sounds overkill but its good for there to be space around the food for the steam (and you can stack some items using trivets and steam baskets) and it doesn't take much more power to come to pressure (and when its there the seal holds it) so i would suggest getting the biggest you reasonably.Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.1 -
We have two 6qt pots for 2 of us, not used together all the time. Personally I would go for a larger pot with a larger family, the instant pot has 8qt and 10qt I think1

Thank you for the info. I think i'll go with a 6 or 7l depending on price.
