Skoda car handbook… Check oil when engine is HOT?!
"Checking the engine oil Park the vehicle on level ground. After warming up the engine and turning it off, wait more than 5 minutes for the oil to drain
back into the bottom of the engine."
The above is for a Toyota. A warmed up engine (warmed to what degree, they don't specify) but allow only sufficient time for the oil to drain, at least 5 minutes.
I ignore that and check cold! Always have done with any vehicle.
Same with Kia.
Yet many people complain there is too much oil in the car after servicing when they check next morning & ALL oil has drained back. Yet do the check as handbook explains & it is fine. Takes a lot longer than 5 mins for all that oil to work it way back to the sump.
Main thing is so long as it is not near the low mark you are OK. Near low mark & checking 1st thing in the morning & you could be stocking up problems with lack of oil. Just need to RFM to see how your car needs checking.
