In need of 3 new tyres. Kia Niro 225/45ZR18

How should i proceed to find something cost effective? Do i have a rare tyre size? I see 16" tyres going for lots cheaper. IS it worth selling the 18" wheels to buy 16" wheels so in the future my tyres will be cheaper? Can anyone find a good deal for my tyre size? ideally that will cope in the winter also.

The rarity will be in the ZR spec
You need to find what speed rating you actually need, a plodder SUV will likely not need too high a rating.
What year and engine size is the car ?
Y & W can be easily sourced in the £110-£140 range for mid range tyres for example
    And why only 3 ?
If you go down to 16s it will be cheaper on tyres but you will need to tell your insurer who may see it as a modification and charge you extra.  Were 16s ever actually fitted to that car ?

if you change the wheel size remember to tell your insurance company
  • It’s the combination of rim size and profile that’s pushing the cost up. You could try a local tyre place and work out some alternative size tyres that would be suitable rather than replace like-for-like. How much tread do you have left on the tyres you have fitted? You’re almost definitely going to need 4, rather than replace just 3.

It’s not likely to be cost effective, or within manufacturers advice, to switch down to 16” wheels.

Find the best of the deals at Black Circles, Asda Tyres etc, look for special offers on sets/pairs of tyres.
New Michelin Primacy 4+ are sounding good for all conditions + good for wear, saving money over the longer term. Over £160 a tyre, though. Nearly up to Michelin CrossClimate prices.
I’ve had Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 5 on my Octavia VRS for a while and they’ve been good over winter and summer. I’m in the warm Southwest of England. They’re around the £135 mark for your size. https://www.blackcircles.com/catalogue/goodyear/eagle-f1-asymmetric-5/225/45/R18/Y/95/f?tyre=38844490
or if you need a more cold, wet oriented tyre the Uniroyal RainSport 5 May suit better. Again around the £135 mark.

Change to 16" may not work depending on disk size. No they are not a rare size. MIne are the same.

Don't just get 3 get 4. Get Michelin crossclimate 2 as well. Much better than std.

Have you looked at W and Y rated tyres which are rated to a higher speed than Z and are much more common, I had never heard of Z rated tyres

ah i didnt realise that letter indicated the speed rating. It only plods around town, but happy to look at W or Y if that will bring the price down

In that case you are likely best just getting 3 new ones to match the existing one. What was it and how much did it cost?

Though it's possible you'll find a deal that's cheaper for 4 of something else.

You have to match the speed rating that is in the owners manual for insurance purposes. You can exceed the rating, but can't drop below what the manual states are factory fit.

A neighbour has the same car and after looking earlier I can confirm the tyres are 225/45/18 W rated.
