Messenger asking me to update to DEMA account by 01 SEP but link is broken

Hi community 😊
I am using FB messenger without a FB account.
I noticed a message in Messenger that says I need to update my Messenger-only account to Deactivated Except Messenger Account (DEMA), otherwise I won't be able to use Messenger anymore. A quick Google shows it's nit a scam as such, and my Messenger app on Android is up-to-date, no update available on Google Play for my Samsung Galaxy S20FE.
I click the Get Started button, but the browser window that then opens shows only a broken link with a log-in window.
Trying to use that log-in window results in another window showing me that this account is a Messenger-only account.
The help pages regarding how to convert a Messenger-oy account to DEMA are not getting me anywhere/let me go round in circles only.
Has anyone here managed to get round this issue successfully? I don't want to lose Messenger for the various chats and group chats but I seem unable to upgrade as required..halp!

Tried your link (it shows the same when I tried to start the conversion process on my phone) and then any log-in via the computer to no avail. I end up using my log-in details but Messenger/FB keeps telling me it's an account associated with a phone only.
Trying the same on the phone (browser) results in the same.
There are no options in messenger for me to use: tried the switch account one where I get an error message.
This is totally insane and frustrating.
Has any other forumite had any luck? I don't want to lose my years worth of chats (I know they can be somehow downloaded but the file will be huge, probably frying my phone).
There is no options to speak to a human it seems; when reporting an issue, a pop-up tells you it just receives this as feedback and no-one will respond. What nonsense0
