Nationwide froze my accounts

Has anyone had any luck with unblocking nationwide accounts?

my identity was stolen and my emails and accounts hacked.  I’ve sent all proof yo Nationwide along with proof of my anxiety disorder.  However they have now taken another of my account’s off my internet banking with no notice.

i can’t get answer or an update and I’ve been told on this phone this could take between 8 weeks and 2 months to get an answer.

Anyone had any updates on this from their own stories

I have logged my ID fraud with action fraud as well

  • How were your accounts hacked? Via mobile app? Internet banking? What exactly happened?
  • Internet banking and email accounts were hacked.  I got informed by my crypto account as someone used my password and account and linked it to try to move money.  They were really helpful but Nationwide offered no support
  • With all the information NW ask you for logging in I am very surprised that account was hacked.

NW are just protecting you and themselves from further fraud.

If they have linked you to crypto trading they may be even more suspicious as to what you are using your accounts for, such as money laundering.

You'll just have to wait for their investigation to finish.
  • Action fraud and the crypto account and police have confirmed I was indeed a victim or if fraud and being hacked.  Can I understand why you feel this is not the  case?

Also why is crypto trading making me a money launderer?  I’ve been doing that for 2 years now with no problems until now and I’ve made and invested a lot of money.  Most of which is in my nationwide savings account that they opened with crypto being the main source of finding for it
  • Don't edit your OP or the replies will not make sense !

Your only option with NW is to wait until they finish their investigation.

    That's the answer.

Cryptocurrencies are a very easy way to launder money, due to the relative anonymity they offer.

That's why many banks view it with suspicion, especially if you're mostly funding an account from it.

I'd be opening a new account elsewhere if I were you, I expect the outcome of this will be for all your NW accounts to be closed.

Nationwide have two secure methods for setting up new payees so even if your banking was hacked there is not much the hacker can do.

Yes, they are are bit of a pain when making changes.

I have moved many hundreds of thousands through my NW account over the years but always to my own accounts with reputable banks and agencies without any issue.

@TINKER82_2 I never suggested you were a money launderer however as @Dimanche_Prochain has said, anything to do with crypto is looked at very carefully and that'll be what NW are now doing.

Agree with the others - the investigation will take as long as it takes. You cannot speed it up. I also agree that Nationwide online and app banking is a bit like Fort Knox - very difficult to hack, unless you have the account owners details, incl possibly their debit card. Setting up any new payee is equally secure and onerous, thus it would be very hard for a third party to syphon money out into their account(s).

If you haven't already got alternative banking facilities, get them now, and don't do there what you did at Nationwide - i.e. no link to crypto, and security details kept safe from hackers. Presumably you have already changed all your passwords and checked your devices for viruses and malware but I mention it since you haven't. Lastly, consider a protective CIFAS registration.
  • Thank you for your help

yes everything changed and passport cancelled and a new one ordered.  My card which was cloned is cancelled.  Well anyways not that it can be of any use as the account is blocked
