Insurance - Exchanged Contracts

So we’ve finally exchanged contracts and solicitor has said “now you’re obligated to buy you need to get home insurance in place”.
We complete in 4 weeks and the insurers I’ve gone to won’t offer me cover unless I’m moving in within 14 days? Do I just leave it a couple of weeks before getting insurance or what?
Any advice appreciated

Or you just cross your fingers that the place doesn't burn down etc in the next couple of weeks...0 -
You could contact a broker if individual insurance companies are not willing to cover you. This must be a frequent situation and brokers should know what to do.

Just to double check - is it a freehold house that you're buying? (Insurance often works differently for flats, and might occasionally work differently for leasehold houses.)
If you've exchanged contracts on a house, you need to talk to some other insurers or a broker quite urgently about getting insurance arranged asap.
It seems strange that your solicitor didn't strongly emphasise the importance of insurance from exchange of contracts before you actually exchanged.
Again, just to double check - have you just signed and returned your contract to your solicitor, or has your solicitor definitely exchanged contracts with the seller's solicitor?

our solicitor pointed out that as the gap was > 28 days basically insurers wouldn't cover that put into the contract that the vendor had to continue insuring it0
