MOONGAZER said:I have been told conflicting stories about debts that have been written off as family cannot be made to pay them, and yet when I was executor for my Dad one of the requirements is to pay off debts - any wise words, please..The family do not need to pay any debts with their own money - however debts need to be paid from the estate before anyone inherits anything. Family don't inherit debts - but they only inherit what is left after debts are paid. If your husband is taking on administration and selling the house he simply needs to tell suppliers their bills will be paid when the estate is finalised after the house is sold. Probably easier to sell the house with connected utilities too.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.
