We have a modern HW tank, that i used to shower every day for work. now i have retired the 2.5 hours a day has dropped off to 1.5 hours twice a week, plus another hour. is there any chance this change is saving me a lot of money, considering these awful price rises?
We have also replaced the gas ring with ceramic hob. (no gas using)

Electricity is much more expensive than gas. Your ceramic instead of gas swap is
the wrong one.
I don't understand the first question. You showered for 2.5 hours a day?Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

showered daily (needing 2 hours a day), but now the tank is on 2.5 hours in a week0

1. If you mean to say:
1a. We do not use gas at all.
1b. Our water is heated via an electric immersion heater only.
1c. The immersion heater(s) was/were switched on 7 x 2.5 = 17.5 hours per week but are now switched on for 4 hours per week.
Then as the immersion heaters turn themselves off once the required hot water temperature is reached, there is no way of telling for sure whether you are making any savings or not. The likelihood is that you are making some savings, as you appear to have sufficient hot water, and no heat is being lost while the water has been heated but is not being used. If you know the make and model of hot water cylinder, yo may be able to look up its heat loss characteristics and get some idea of any savings. In my view likely to be less than 2 kW/hrs per day - say 30p / day at the old electricity rates.1 -

OP more info is required if you would like anyone to help.
how old is modern? I might say modern is less than 10 years old but it really depends on who you speak to and what they are talking about...
what is the tank? a cylinder with an immersion heater or a thermal store fired by wood or solar ?
electric hob vs gas is another argument, electricity is approx. 4 times more expensive than gas so far (excluding efficiency)
to sum up, what you've said so far makes no sense so don't expect any helpful answers1 -

fenwick, doozer thinks electricity is more expensive. apologies for confusion. tank is 6yo, cylinder with immersion heater
the tank was used 2.5 hours a day= 17.5 hours a week, now using 4 hours pw.
saving 30p per day =2.10 pw............£25 per quarter (old rates)??? poss £70 PQ at todays announcement0 -
Turn the thermostat down to 50-55°C, and that will save you even more (assuming it is set to something like 65°C). Do not get hung up about Legionella - If the water temperature is maintained at 50°C for any length of time, the bacteria will be killed. Not that there is much risk in the first place, but some people do like to scaremonger about the unlikeliest of events.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

The immersion isn't using electricity all the time it's on. It has a thermostat, so it only stays on long enough to heat the water, then it switches off again. It uses a similar amount of electricity whether you leave it on 24/7 or just 4 hours a week.
If you turn the water temperature down a bit - there's an adjustment inside the immersion heater (switch off at mains before removing cover) - that will reduce the losses from the cylinder slightly. Using less hot water will obviously save you electricity. Fiddling with the switch doesn't do much.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?1 -
I disagree. This would be correct only if the heat loss is close to zero. Otherwise it's very similar to heating a house.GDB2222 said:spurdog1 said:fenwick, doozer thinks electricity is more expensive. apologies for confusion. tank is 6yo, cylinder with immersion heater
